Wild Space and the Virginia Conservation Assistance Program are proud to partner with the Haven as it creates a new native planting area on its grounds. As part of its mission to serve the public and provide a safe and welcoming environment, the Haven is dedicated to the idea that beautiful, natural, and sustainable places are meant for everyone.

In partnership with the Haven, Wild Space has designed, created, and now supports a unique native plant community garden that provides habitat and food for pollinators and other wildlife. Establishing this special environment, even in a small space, helps to ensure that our region’s most diverse and unique plants and animals have a safe haven and more contiguous corridors to spread and thrive.

This native plant area is integral to mitigating soil erosion and water runoff, which can lead to flooding, higher energy costs for flood remediation, and the spread of pollutants into the city’s sewer systems. In 2026, the Haven won a grant from the Virginia Conservation Assistance Program, which supports the creation of conservation
