Wild Space and the Virginia Conservation Assistance Program are proud to partner with the Laurelwood community at Wintergreen as it creates a new native planting area on its grounds.

In partnership with Laurelwood, Wild Space has designed, created, and now supports a unique native plant community garden that provides habitat and food for pollinators and other wildlife. Establishing this special environment helps to ensure that our region’s most diverse and unique plants and animals have a safe haven and more contiguous corridors to spread and thrive.

This native plant area is integral to mitigating soil erosion and water runoff, which can lead to flooding, higher energy costs for flood remediation, and the spread of pollutants into sewer systems. In 2026, Laurelwood won a grant from the Virginia Conservation Assistance Program (VCAP), which supports the creation of conservation landscapes designed to maintain soil integrity and reduce the harmful effects of erosion.
